The Hollywood Casino Amphitheater (originally Riverport Amphitheater and formerly UMB Bank Pavilion and Verizon Wireless Amphitheater St. Louis ) is a 7,000-seat outdoor concert venue, with grass seating for 13,000 others, making it a 20,000-capacity venue. Located at 14141 Riverport Drive in Maryland Heights, Missouri, near St. Louis Louis, one mile west of I-270/I-70 interchange, on I-70 and Earth City Expressway South (exit 231A).
Venue Live Nation owners announced Dec. 17, 2014 that they have signed a multiyear agreement with Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights, owned and operated by Penn National Gaming, to sponsor the amphitheater title. The length of the agreement was not disclosed.
The venue was built around $ 12 million, and opened on June 14, 1991, with an appearance by Steve Winwood.
Shortly after the opening, the amphitheater became the famous Riverport Riot location, July 2, 1991, during the Guns N 'Roses concert, during the tour Use Your Illusion Tour .
In 1998, the local promoter of Contemporary Group, which built the amphitheater, was acquired by SFX. SFX's corporate successor Live Nation Entertainment continues to own and operate the venue.
On June 9, 2000, band REO Speedwagon and Styx appeared at the joint venue and released Arch Allies Live at Riverport and released 2 single-disc versions for Styx and one for REO.
In 2002, Bank UMB acquired naming rights to the site for five years. Verizon Wireless then bought the naming rights in November 2006.
Sting performed during the Symphonicities Tour on June 23, 2010, along with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
On July 23, 2010, Kings of Leon suddenly ended their set, after only three songs, allegedly pelted with dirt by pigeons while on stage. The band gives fans their money back and then announces a makeup event. The new date is scheduled for September 25, 2010. Free tickets are for those who attend their last performances and $ 10.00 for other fans who are planning to attend.
The amphitheater has hosted many music festivals, including the Spectacular Summer 60s, All That! Music and More Festivals, Anger Management Tour, Crem Festival, CrÃÆ'¼e Fest 2, Family Value Tour, Agricultural Aid, H.O.R.D.E. Festival, Honda Civic Tour, Lilith Fair, Lollapalooza, Mayhem Festival, Ozzfest, Pointfest, Projekt Revolution, Uproar Festival, and Vans Warped Tour.
