Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited , together with its subsidiaries, is the largest mutual insurance company in the United Kingdom, with Group funds under management of Ã, Â £ 100 billion. Royal London is registered in the UK with its headquarters in the City of London. It has other big offices in Wilmslow and Edinburgh, with smaller offices in Bath, Glasgow and Dublin.
History
Founded in 1861 by Joseph Degge and Henry Ridge at a coffee shop in London, Royal London was originally founded as a friendly community dedicated to serving the interests of its members and securing their financial security. Royal London became a society of collective life in 1908.
Other elements of modern business are older than the major brands: eg Royal Liver Assurance was founded in 1850, while Irish business, until recently labeled as Caledonian Life in 1824, and representing the Caledonian Insurance Company founded in Edinburgh in the year 1805.
Royal London Asset Management (RLAM) is a wholly owned subsidiary of this group founded in 1988. RLAM employs 76 investment professionals, based in the London corporate office.

In 2013, Royal London signed a four-year contract to sponsor a cricket day in England and Wales, including domestic and international matches.
Acquisitions
On December 31, 2000 Royal London took over United Assurance Group plc. The transaction was the largest acquisition of British companies cited by reciprocity. United Assurance Group itself has been formed by the incorporation of United Friendly and Refuge Assurance in October 1996.
On October 2, 2000 it was announced that Royal London would acquire Scottish Life, a Edinburgh-based retirement specialist. The transfer took place on July 1, 2001.
In March 2003 Royal London launched a new protection business, Edinburgh-based Bright Gray.
In May 2008 Royal London ended a transaction to acquire open business Resolution. This is a Scottish Provident and Scottish Mutual protection business; Phoenix Life Assurance Limited (formerly Abbey National Life) and Scottish Provident International.
In early 2009, Scottish Provident International and Scottish Life International offshore businesses combined to form a new entity, the Royal London 360 Â ° centered on the Isle of Man. This business is subject to management purchases in November 2013. Royal London 360 Â ° is changed to RL360 Â ° immediately after MBO.
In 2010 Royal London announced that it was in talks with Royal Liver Assurance regarding a possible acquisition. The provisions were approved in 2011 and Royal Liver delegates voted for a takeover at their AGM on May 12, 2011 and the transfer was completed on 1 July.
In 2013, the Cooperative Group agreed to sell his life & amp; retirement and asset management business to Royal London. The proposed transaction obtained the approval of Royal London members at the EGMS in June 2013 and obtained regulatory approval on July 31, 2013.
In 2015 Caledonian Life, the Irish business of the group was renamed Royal London Ireland.
By the end of 2015, Royal London completed the branding changes of its two British protection companies, Bright Gray and Scottish Provident into the new Royal London brand of protection.
This completed the group's trip to become one of the Royal London brands. The independent pack platform platform remains Ascentric branded.
